This hand-made urn is based on a poppy seed head design. The urn has a hand-made recycled cotton bag and starch plastic bag inside to hold your love one’s ashes. The handle is made from hedgerow wood, usually hazel, which is abundant on Dartmoor. The artist chooses quirky curves which add an individual quality to the urn.

The Artist

Yuli is originally from Norway, but has spent most of her life living and working in Devon. The traditional weaving and knitting heritage of Norway deeply influenced her since she was old enough to hold needles to knit with. She started creating felt products in the 1980s and now creates beautiful coffins and urns, which are 100% plastic and metal free and fully biodegradable.

The following passage is the Yuli’s mantra: “If you have to make a thing, you must know the background of it, the skeleton, the foundations, the actual stuff that the materials have grown out of, their connections with their natural background, their biotechnics – and then building can begin. And then the reason for making, the purpose, the human connection. All sides must be considered and known. You cannot just make.”
